How to Get Philhealth ID in the Philippines

How to Get a Philhealth ID in the Philippines?

Even if you think you don’t, you need health insurance to live life with fewer worries, knowing you’ll receive financial assistance when you get sick or hurt.

Since it’s no secret that receiving health or medical care is expensive in the Philippines, sudden injuries or sicknesses can even cost some people their life savings when they aren’t insured.

So whether you’re a high-earning employee or earn the minimum wage, you have to make the most out of your health insurance coverage so you don’t incur medical bills you can’t afford to pay out of your pocket.

In the Philippines, the Department of Health owns and controls a tax-exempt corporation that administers the National Health Insurance Program, established to provide health insurance coverage and ensure affordable, acceptable, available, and accessible health care services for millions of Filipinos.

What are the Benefits Offered by Philhealth?

The corporation, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), offers a list of benefits to its members:

  1. Inpatient Benefits
  1. Outpatient Benefits
  1. Z Benefits
  1. SDG Related

For more information about the benefits available for PhilHealth members, check out Benefits | PhilHealth.

While all Filipinos can become a PhilHealth member and avail the benefits PhilHealth has to offer in all its accredited HCIs, members can do the latter easily if they can present their PhilHealth ID and their Member Data Record (MDR).

These two documents are necessary for identification, eligibility verification, and utilization recording.

Upon enrolment or registration, PhilHealth members receive a PhilHealth Identification Number (PIN), a permanent and unique 12-digit number assigned to every PhilHealth member they will use for their monthly payments.

After becoming a member and receiving their PIN, applicants must still go through the process of getting a PhilHealth ID card. In this article, you will find the step-by-step application procedure for a PhilHealth ID.

So if you’re a PhilHealth member who’s yet to have a PhilHealth ID and want to know how to get one ASAP, don’t stop scrolling now!

While members receive a PIN upon enrolment or registration, they still need an ID card that certifies that they are a PhilHealth member.

A PhilHealth ID serves as proof that a member and their dependents can avail of the benefits and privileges provided by the government’s National Health Insurance Program.

A PhilHealth ID card is a paper ID that PhilHealth members can use. The Department of Health defines a PhilHealth ID as the “unique and permanent number issued to any client upon enrolment/membership registration to the National Health Insurance Program of the Corporation,” usually for identification, eligibility verification, and utilization recording purposes.

Digitized PhilHealth Insurance ID Card (optional for employed members)

Step 1: Refer to the step-by-step process previously mentioned for the regular PhilHealth ID but this time, check the option for the Digitized Insurance ID in the Request Form.

Step 2: State the names of your dependents. Your insurance will also protect your dependents. Adding dependents will require you to submit two of your dependents’ government valid IDs on their behalf.

Step 3: Pay a standard fee of 90 PHP. You will have to pay a fee of 358 PHP for applications with dependents.

What’s the difference between the two IDs?

The Regular PhilHealth ID is applicable in availing of PhilHealth Inpatient and Outpatient benefits at accredited HCIs.

The same goes for the Digitized PhilHealth Insurance ID Card. What makes the latter better is that it can also serve as a valid government ID for other transactions, including banking, monetary exchange, and identity verification.

However, the issuance of the digitized ID to voluntary members is currently on hold.

Final Thoughts

If there’s anything that the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us, it’s the importance of prioritizing our safety and health and preparing ourselves for unfortunate and unprecedented circumstances.

So if you want to do both, you should consider getting yourself a PhilHealth ID or register as a PhilHealth member if you aren’t one yet as soon as possible.

To be extra safe, beware of transacting with fixers offering online assistance for securing PhilHealth ID documents, as they can be scammers.

Remember that it’s better to always directly transact with the PhilHealth office when requesting a PhilHealth ID, MDR, or other PhilHealth-related documents.

For more details about PhilHealth-related transactions apart from getting a PhilHealth ID, check out the official PhilHealth website or visit their socials on Facebook and Twitter.

I hope reading this article will help you get your PhilHealth ID easier, and I wish you the best of luck in enjoying being a PhilHealth member!
